Dr. Rachel Woolf is an accomplished flutist, educator, and advocate for new music. She serves as Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) School of Music. Rachel is the co-founder of Duo 彩 AYA, a flute and marimba duo, principal flutist of the Victoria Bach Festival, and a member of the symphonic pop-rock band The Polyphonic Spree. She also performs regularly with the San Antonio Philharmonic and the United States Air Force Band of the West. Her diverse career includes collaborations with renowned artists such as José González, Il Divo, Darren Criss, and Swans.
Rachel has been featured prominently at the National Flute Association (NFA) Convention, including three consecutive appearances on NFA Gala Concerts (2022–2024), and served as the Local Arrangements Chair for the 2024 NFA Convention. Her international engagements include performances at the 2024 World Flutes Festival in Argentina, performances throughout Chile, and appearances at major conferences such as the 2023 North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference, International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest, and College Music Society National Conference.
A dedicated educator, Rachel was named YAMAHA’s “40 UNDER 40” Music Educators Class of 2025. Rachel has given masterclasses and recitals throughout Argentina, Chile, and the The University of Michigan and The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Wisconsin, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, University of Alabama, and many others. She has also served on judging panels for prominent competitions such as the NFA Young Artist Competition and the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Convention.
Rachel holds degrees from the University of Michigan (BM), Bowling Green State University (MM), and the University of North Texas (DMA), where she also studied Ethnomusicology. Her mentors include Amy Porter, Dr. Conor Nelson, Terri Sundberg, Dr. James Scott, and Karen Reynolds.
